Standing on a tuff cliff, the majestic medieval fortress of Offagna dominates the surrounding landscape. Built by the people of Ancona in 1454-55 as a defense, the “Rocca di Offagna” fortress is an important example of military architecture thanks to its high walls, towers, guard-house and drawbridge. Today it hosts the permanent exhibition of arms “Cacciatori e Guerrieri dalla pietra all’acciaio” that you can visit at any time of year.
During the medieval festivals, the streets and alleys of Offagna are enlivened by court jesters, wandering minstrels, dames and knights, all dressed up in period costumes. We suggest you visit one of the many taverns to taste the local specialties: “crescia” flat bread and the “dolce della contesa” which is a puff pastry dessert prepared according to the original medieval recipe and accompanied with “Moretum”, a blackberry honeywine.
